Born in the hills, devoted to Kolkata's children
Dr. Abhijit Chowdhury was born in Wellington, a small army town nestled in the Nilgiri hills of South India. His early years moved with the rhythm of cantonment life before his schooling took root at St. Xavier’s, Patna.
His medical training carried him across Bankura, Kolkata and Ranchi, where he specialised in paediatrics and neonatology — the care of children and the most fragile newborns.
“A child is not a small adult. They deserve patience, gentleness, and a doctor who truly listens.”
For nearly three decades, he has been a trusted child specialist across the Dumdum, Baguiati and Laketown region of North Kolkata — caring for thousands of families, often across two and three generations of the same household.
Beyond the clinic, he is a published author of child-care books in Bengali and English, and the founder of a welfare clinic in the Sunderbans that has served poor children every week since 1994.
