Most childhood illnesses heal on their own
Nature is the best physician. Most everyday childhood illnesses — colds, mild fevers, loose motions — are caused by viruses that the body clears on its own within a few days.
What actually helps
- Rest and fluids — plenty of water, breast milk or ORS.
- Normal food — don’t force-feed, but keep offering.
- Paracetamol only when fever crosses 101°F and the child is uncomfortable.
When to see the doctor
- Child under 1 year, or fever beyond 5 days.
- Breathing difficulty, drowsiness, or refusing all feeds.
Antibiotics do not work against viruses — using them needlessly only causes harm.
